De Cruce

2019

De Cruce is a variation on the theme of Crucifixion and its many representations in art. It is inspired by a sixteenth century engraving illustrating the treatise De Cruce Libri Tres by Juste Lipse.  The author examines the many different methods of crucifixion during antiquity, a particularly cruel method of execution intended to mark the spirits in the public square. Over time, the De Cruce project will develop several narrative forms, combining woodworking, ironwork, drawing, and engraving.
